CRUISE TO CITY CANCELLED

It is with regret and disappointment that the Cruising Committee (in conjunction with the Port of Cork authorities) have made the decision to CANCEL tomorrow’s Cruise to Cork City.  This decision had been made as a consequence of the wet weather currently being forecast for tomorrow afternoon and evening and throughout Sunday

As you know the plan was to have an open air barbeque with music, etc., on the uncovered Custom House Quay and our decision to cancel has been taken (a) to avoid potential discomfort for participants and (b) to avoid any risk to personal safety arising among those moving between rafted vessels and around the metal pontoons provided by the Port authorities.

Alternative Arrangements – An Indoor Charity Schmooze & Booze

In so far as one of the objectives of the planned cruise was to raise funds for the Children’s Leukaemia Unit at the Mercy Hospital and also to have some “fun”, the Committee have arranged some alternative fundraising mischief for tomorrow night at the Club.  Details as follows:

• The ”charity bar”, offering beer, wine and soft drinks will operate in the Green Room from 19.30 hours onwards.  The refreshments provided courtesy of our sponsors will be available on a “contribution basis” for those wishing to dig deep for the Leukaemia Unit.
• Paul O’Shea’s Band will provide music in the Club Bar from 20.00 hrs and the associated spot prizes and raffle will entertain Members in typical Royal Cork style
• For those seeking food, a “main course only” option will be available during the evening, while a 3-course “Recession Buster” menu for € 25 is also on available in the Club Restaurant (table booking please through the restaurant).
• In the inclement conditions, judging of the “best dressed boat competition” will be constrained, however, a prize will be awarded to the skipper of the vessel adjudged by the Committee to have exhibited the greatest prospects in terms of entertainment potential over the course of the evening – singing, dancing, renditions of poetry & limericks, yodelling, and other “turns” are all encouraged!

Finally, for those skippers who have already paid the € 50 berthing fee for the event, a refund is available through the Club Office, or where a refund is not sought, the associated fee will be included as part of the Club’s donation to the Leukaemia Unit.  A designated charity collection box will be available in the Club Bar for any participants wishing to contribute in any way to this worthwhile venture over the course of the evening.

Please come and join the fun and help raise the maximum possible amount for our contribution to the Leukaemia Unit.

Our apologies for any inconvenience occasioned by the decision to cancel, but we know that Members will understand the circumstances arising from forecast weather conditions outside of our control.
