The National 18’S Southcoasts over the weekend brought some of the most exhilarating sailing we have seen in a while. Twelve boats started the first race on Saturday morning, no delay for the match!, in up to 25+ knots Westerly and it was no place for the faint hearted!
Race 1 saw Aquaholics pull their first of 3 bullets for the weekend with Ball ‘n Chain and 3 Blind Mice following in that order. Aquaholics held their winning ways in the second race with 3 Blind Mice second and The Good, Bad and the Ugly third. Tired crew and boats started the third and final race of the day in as fresh a breeze leaving carnage at one gybe mark with two boats down, the new carbon masts seem to survived a good trawling off the bottom of Cork harbour, results were 3 Blind Mice first, GBU second and Ball n’ Chain third.
Sunday although looking like it might turn out to be a drifting match, thankfully brought a slightly more civilised 10 – 15 knots with very tight racing.
After 6 races and 1 discard, Aquaholics and 3 Blind Mice both had 9 points but congratulations to Aquaholics who took the Championship on count back.
Thanks to Peter and Marie Crowley for doing a superb OD job, Dom and Breda Long and all the assistants aboard Spare Time (especially for not for not shortening coarse in last race on Saturday).
Thanks to Mark Ring and rescue crews and Anthony for a great B B Q on Saturday night.
Great weekend see you all Wednesday, results attached.
