There is a buzz of anticipation around the 18 fleet with boats of all vintages starting to appear on the marina, moorings and dinghy park. To date 53 boats have confirmed that they will participate in the Class Championships from July 24 – 29 at Royal Cork. In all 8 countries will be represented with Germany, France, Holland, Isle of Man, Northern Ireland, Scotland and England joining the host nation on the startline.

The knock on effect was seen last Wed night with the biggest fleet of the season enjoying fantastic conditions. In race one only 20 boat lengths seperated 11 boats. In excess of 15 boats should make the race this Wed night.

Along with the main fleet there will be a fleet of classic 18s that will complete a seperate and more varied programme for the week. Rear Admiral Frank Fitzgibbon along with crew Paul Hassett and John Spillane have been spotted running up and down to Goats Cross in preparation for their campaign in the Classic fleet.

The fleet in the harbour continues to expand and welcomes new owners John O’Mahony, Kevin O’Connor and Des Corbett to the 18 fleet. New members are always welcome so please come and talk to us if you would like to get involved in some great sailing.
