Cove Sailing Club have published details for the upcoming Cobh to Blackrock Race, and have provided an update below. This year the race will take place on Saturday, September 4th. Please note the departure from the usual day of Sunday. This is to coincide with the Port of Cork Open Day. There will be a myriad of festivities and events taking place in and around the harbour area and surrounding localities on the day.
The Cork Harbour Open Day is taking place on the same day, and all competitors have been invited by the Port of Cork to berth at the new City Quay marina. Any boats taking part in the race can berth overnight at the marina free of charge.
Cove Sailing Club will hold the prize giving at the Boardwalk restaurant on Lapps Quay (just opposite the marina). The Boardwalk will provide a barbecue for competitors (priced about €10) and their usual menu will be available inside.
Crews staying overnight on the pontoon can avail of showers (€5) and/or breakfast (€10) at the Clarion Hotel (next to the Boardwalk) the next morning. These are available at preferential rates only for competitors staying overnight on the marina. We have been advised by the Clarion that there are a number of rooms still available and if anyone is interested they should contact the Clarion Hotel (021 422 4942) for details. It is very busy that weekend so if you are interested please let them know quickly.
There is no entry fee for the race and there will be the usual trophies and prizes for winners and runners up.
