Cobbler League continues is glorious sunshine

Day two of the Optimist October league saw over 60 optimists on the water. There was fantastic close racing in possibly the nicest sailing conditions of the year. With a steady 12 to 14 knot northwesterly OODs Michael McCann and Ronan Lyden set a windward leeward course on the Curlane Bank.

Leading the main event at the half way stage with a total of eight points is Peter McCann who scored two firsts and a second today. On joint second is Daire Cournane and Cian Byrne on nineteen points, Byrne having also had an excellent second day scoring a first, second and fourth. Full results are available here.

The event is being run under the National IODAI system of fleet division due to the number of visitors from other clubs – namely Waterford, Tralee, Lough Derg and Kinsale and these first three sailors are Junior (under 12) Gold.

Senior Gold sailors Seafra Guilfoyle and Patrick Crosbie make up fourth and fifth with best Senior Silver being Andrew Levie in fifthteenth, and best Junior Silver Cliodhna Ni Shuilleabhain currently in sixthteenth.

The Regatta fleet sailed a shorter course and is currently being led by James McCann closely followed by Rebecca O’Shaughnessy and Tom McGrath.
