Stay@Home Activites

In this period of isolation it is more important than ever for our members to club together. As the club begins to reopen, we are conscious that many will still not be able to enjoy the facilities considering the current travel restrictions in place. In the meantime, here we have consolidated a number of different ways for you and fellow members to pass the time and have some fun. 

RCYC Activites:

Way Back When – A series of 25 articles looking at the club in the living memory of current members. The WBW team are taking a short break right now but there’s loads there to keep you going. 

Virtual Regatta – 100 ‘sailors’ competed online in our April leagues and on Sunday May 3rd, Ronan Downing was crowned the April Champion of Champions. May leagues are active, follow this link for details and we encourage everyone and anyone to take part. For those new to the game, Daragh Connolly will be running a Silver fleet in the Keelboats leagues on Thursday evening too. 

Webinar With World Renowned Coaches Bocha and Fernando – Over 150 people from 90 households joined us on Sunday 17th May for a webinar with Gonzalo Pollitzer(Bocha) and Fernando Gwozdz. The dinghy committee have now secured their services for a series of 4 more webinars for a charge of €50 in total. Details here.

Webinar – The Duel – Replay this webinar where Harry Durcan and Alex Barry talk through an intense battle in the RS400 Southerns in Baltimore in 2018. Alex and Harry were also joined by Olympic hopeful Seafra Guilfoyle who gives great insight into life growing up sailing the Royal Cork and where things stand now in the Olympic qualification process. 

Webinar – Sailwave Results Programme – A good starter from Siobhán Carmody for anyone using the Sailwave results programme for club racing or events.

Surviving Cocooning – Barbara and Frank Fitzgibbon circumnavigated the globe 25 years ago. In this article Barbara shares her perspective on close quarters living and the learnings they’ve brought into the cocoon.

SailCork – Online Passage Planning – Join Eddie in a series of interactive courses as he ventures from Youghal to Kerry. Feedback so far has been excellent.

SailCork – Tips For Managing You Boat and Crew – Eddie is regularly posting short videos on YouTube with hits and tips. 

INSS – Sailing School From Home – A series of free short theory lecture videos on topics ranging from kids’ sailing to powerboating, yachting and shore-based programmes.

INSS – Man Overboard – John White & Kenny Rumball share their experiences from John’s man overboard while sailing the J109, ‘Jedi’, in the 2018 Round Ireland race.
