Admiral Paddy McGlade in the company of rear admiral dinghies Larrie Martin, were both on hand last Tuesday evening to make a special presentation on behalf of the club to our optimist sailors who qualified for a place on an Irish team for 2011.
A total of seven Royal Cork sailors each secured a place on teams selected as a result of the recent Irish optimist trials. Jil McGinley, Harry Whitaker , Eoin Lyden & Peter McCann all qualified for the European team that will travel to Portugal this July to represent Ireland. A month later, the Irish international development team will travel to Germany and will include brothers Daire & Ronan Cournane.
Finally, Sophie Browne who was overall winner of the 2011 trials qualified for and chose to represent Ireland at the world championships later this year in New Zealand. Congratulations to Sophie and all the team qualifiers and we wish them well in representing their country and club.
