Club looking resplendent in readiness for the 2012 sailing season

Club RIBS

The new Club RIBS

Visiting the club over the weekend in the glorious weather conditions one couldn’t but notice how pristine everything was looking in readiness for the forthcoming season as befits a club with our newly awarded title of a 5 Gold Anchor marina as well as an ICOMIA (International Council of Marine Industry Associations) Clean Marina.5 Gold Anchors

The O’Leary Insurance Group White Sail April League will commence on Saturday next, April 7th. The warning signal will be at 14.55hrs and continuing each Saturday for the month and the good news is that there is no entry fee for this league. One might even say a nice gentle start to ease sailors back into harness again!

The MarinaAs always when visiting the club at the weekend one usually expects to be greeted with the sight of the Optimists and Lasers on the water and yesterday was no exception.

ClubhouseIt was a glorious morning with the sun reflecting on the water and showing everything to its best advantage.  Foremost among the boats to be seen and admired were the two new Club XS 6m RIBS with their 90hp Evinrude outboards and their stainless propellers and with their bright orange colour they certainly looked classy and fit for the purpose intended.  Club Manager, Gavin Deane, advised that a lot of research and trials were carried out on a number of RIBs to find the most suitable type for the club offshore work with big marks needing to be towed particularly for events such as the eagerly awaited forthcoming Cork Week.  Adrielle was on the hard, her bottom taken back to the bare wood ready for priming and anti fouling, and will be making her usual pristine appearance shortly.

Ongoing improvements are taking place at the clubhouse and one can feel the buzz in the air that it’s time to go down to the sea in boats again.
