We are delighted to announce that both Claire and Robert Bateman received Honorary Memberships of the Royal Cork Yacht Club from Admiral Peter Deasy at Monday evening’s Annual General Meeting. The Admiral was lavish in his praise of the Batemans who have given so freely of their time over many years in the promotion of the Royal Cork Yacht Club and sailing in general. Here is an extract from the Admiral’s speech “The lifeblood of any club are it’s members and in particular those that give of their time and expertise on a voluntary basis for the benefit of all. Bob and Claire Bateman epitomise what voluntarism is all about. They have been described as the Torvill and Dean of sailing in that they work in unison, Bob with his camera whenever needed, and Claire populating our website week in week out.They have both given an enormous amount of time and expertise to their club over many years at their own expense, so that we the members can stay informed on sailing events throughout the year. As Admiral I am delighted and privileged to be in a position to recommend you both as Honorary Members of the Royal Cork Yacht Club and wish you every success for the future”
