Royal Cork’s Cian McCarthy will not start in this weekend’s Fastnet race because his brand new Class 40 yacht ‘Cinnamon Girl ‘ is still to hit the water. The solo sailor is focused instead on October 18th, the date for the Route de Chocolat, a transatlantic race from France to Mexico. The keel is to go on the boat tomorrow (Friday) and McCarthy hopes to have Cinnamon Girl in the water for the first time at the weekend. After initial trials the boat, the first of a new design from Merfyn Owen will be positioned to Cork in September as part of his 1,000 mile qualification sail prior to the Transatlantic race.
