National 18’s Report Friday Night 18/5/12

It would have taken was for one of us to say “forget this, lets go to the bar” as we stood in the dinghy park in the pouring rain and no wind and I put my hand on my heart and say even the crew (crew not skipper of course) of Oystercatcher would probably have agreed and jumped at the idea. But as you all know the 18′ class is made of sterner stuff than that.
The rain eased and as the 5 boats passed Currabbiny we were in a (sometimes) steady 10 to 15 knt easterly, yip, our decision had paid off.
Our trusted OD; Keith gave us two LEAGUE COUNTING windward leeward races in great sailing conditions. Race 1 saw Clea and Brian Hassett take the honours followed by Oystercatcher and Tommy Mac in Badger. Race 2 saw Colin Chapmans’ Aquaholics get back to winning ways followed by Clea and Oystercatcher. Well done to Willie Healy in Break Even with two up who pushed us all the way and as the weeks go by seems to be matching the speed of the newer hulls. All told a great evenings racing wrapped up with one of Anthony’s best Steaks. Thanks again to Keith and the rescue lads see you ALL Wednesday 23rd.

Results of May League and Crews League attached.
