Schull Harbour Sailing Club has announced that Neil Prendeville of Kinsale Yacht Club has been appointed Principal Race Officer for Calves Week, which will run from July 31st-Aug 9th. He will lead an experienced race team that will include Denis Kiely of SCORA and Schull Harbour Club Commodore Morgan O Donovan.
This year’s event will incorporate the McWilliamOne South Coast Championships to be sailed in both Baltimore and Schull from Friday 31st July to Tuesday 4th August. The overall SCORA prizegiving ceremony will take place in the Courtyard, Schull, on Tuesday evening.
The event will feature racing for eight classes, from Class Zero to Class Four in the cruisers, together with two white sail classes and a sports boat class to cater for the growing West Cork 1720 fleet.
The traditional Wednesday Cape Clear fun regatta will continue to provide the crews with a break from the intensity of the week’s competition before returning to Schull on Thursday for an inshore race, while on Friday the fleet will round the Fastnet Rock with a finish in Crookhaven, where the boats will overnight prior to Saturday’s regatta.
The exhausting but hugely exhilarating week will conclude on Sunday 9th with Schull Regatta where racing will take place on two courses in Roaring Water Bay, with the closing ceremony and overall presentation of trophies in the Harbour View Hotel.
