Busy Week for the Dinghy Fleets
Last Saturday saw the annual running of the Coolmore Race, always a highlight on the dinghy calendar and, as ever, a great family event.
A steady supply of jellies was handed out to competitors from the support boats during the race, adding to the fun on the water. Line honours went to Alex and Jen Barry sailing an Omega, with the race’s youngest competitors, four-year-olds Max Barry and Jackson O’Leary, on board. They also brought their own unique approach to spotting the shifts, armed with oversized bubble wands.

The race was missing many of the Optimist fleet, who were away in WHSC competing at the Munsters. Well done to Dylan O’Sullivan, who finished 2nd in the Senior Fleet, and Brody Hayes, who took 3rd in the Junior Fleet.
Congratulations also to Erin Choi, who was overall Coolmore winner on PY in an Optimist.
Daniel Coppertone (SHSC & RCYC) was recently selected to represent Ireland at the World Sailing Youth Match Racing World Championship, taking place in Denmark from 21 to 25 June. Sailing with Daniel will be his long-time 420 partner Matt Mapplebeck. Daniel and Matt are the current ISA Junior Champions and have enjoyed strong success over the past two seasons, including wins at multiple 420 events and the 420 National Championship. We wish Daniel and Matt the very best in Denmark. It is a great achievement for these 17-year-olds to represent both club and country at U23, and wish them fair winds and hope they enjoy the occasion and sail well.

In other dinghy news, Oscar Rowan (WHSC & RCYC) is currently in Morocco with the Irish team competing at the 2026 Optimist World Championship.

We wish Oscar, and all the Irish sailors in action abroad, the very best over the coming days.
