Burns Trophy report

The Burns Trophy concluded last Saturday, when the Optimist Fleet took advantage of a break in the weather.  The fleet snuck around the corner for two quick races on the Curlane Bank, when all other classes had given up hope on the day! September saw 41 sailors afloat in total, despite losing two days to poor weather and the Munsters earlier in the month.

They say sailing is a family sport, and the prizes certainly reflect that. The Pritchard family made a big impact, collecting first place in both Gold and Copper (Harry and George) with Simon 3rd Silver. Some of our newest members also did well – Margot (2nd Copper) and Thibault (2nd Bronze) Dargnies having recently joined the Royal Cork Fleet from their usual sailing base in Saint Malo.  Brothers Ben and Stephen O’Shaughnessy also took home prizes for 2nd and 1st Silver Fleet.

Outside of the sibling rivalries, JP Curtin won Bronze fleet, with Rowan MacSweeney in 3rd place. The remaining prizes were presented to Rian Collins (3rd Copper), Killian O’Regan (3rd Gold) and Cillian Foster (2nd Gold).

Racing moves to Sundays in October, with the Cobbler League starting this weekend.
