Brendan Lyden won the Kinsale Optimist Christmas Regatta at the weekend. Coming into the final race, any of about 6 sailors could have won the event but Brendan came out top thanks to a final second in the fleet of 35 young sailors who braved the cold conditions.
Freezing conditions greeted the sailors on Saturday morning in Kinsale where boats had to be unloaded from the ISA trailer which had just returned from very successful trip to Maubisson in France and Palma de Majorca (5 sailors from Crosshaven were in the squad and 2 of them were carded for Sports Council funding on the basis of their performance).
While only 5 sailors from Crosshaven competed in this event all acquited themselves well. Other notable results were Patrick Crosbie (1st Junior and 3rd Overall) and Dermot Lyden (1st Junior Silver).
