305th Royal Cork “At Home” Regatta: A Celebration of Sailing and Community

The Royal Cork Yacht Club’s 305th “At Home” Regatta took place last weekend in glorious summer conditions, delivering a spectacular celebration of sailing, camaraderie, and tradition at the world’s oldest yacht club.

Under a warm sun and with a steady southerly breeze filling the sails, competitors and spectators alike were treated to champagne sailing over the course of two days. The keelboat fleet turned out in strong numbers, racing across four competitive classes. Thanks to the expert management of Race Officer Richard Leonard and his dedicated team, three superb races were completed, showcasing the very best of racing at the RCYC’s premier summer event.

Beyond the on-water action, the regatta upheld its long-standing reputation for hospitality and fun ashore. Saturday evening saw the clubhouse buzzing with activity—live music filled the air as members gathered for a BBQ or a more formal sit-down dinner. The sight of the club brimming with members and friends highlighted the enduring spirit of the RCYC community.

Sunday brought with it the traditional “At Home” activities that delight young and old alike. Children enjoyed crab fishing and tug-of-war contests, while the club’s famous tea tables—laden with homemade sandwiches, cakes, and pastries—were a testament to the tireless efforts of the RCYC ladies. The Admiral’s Boules Competition provided light-hearted competition before the much-anticipated prizegiving ceremony closed the weekend.

As summer sailing continues, attention now turns to the remaining races in the August/September League. With three more races to go, the club looks forward to seeing more exciting action on the water.
