The very best of luck to Andrew O’Neill who heads to Spain to compete in the 2023 Optimist World Championship as one of 5 optimist sailors representing IODAI and Ireland at the event. On his return, Andrew will immediately turn his attention to compete here at home in the Topper World Championships in July.
Andrew has shown potential as an optimist sailor at RCYC from a very young age, following in the footsteps of his older siblings Julie & Craig, Andrew developed through our internal Gold-Silver-Bronze-Copper-Tin optimist pathway to Gold fleet very quickly. He has won most IODAI optimist allocates along the way, and sailed in Sonderborg, Denmark last year as part of the IODAI European Team.
At the Investwise Youth Nationals over Easter in Howth, Andrew came 3rd to earn a place as one of 5 sailors on the IODAI Worlds Team.
