Leg one of the Volvo Ocean Race 2008/2009 from Alicante to Capetown got off to a lightning start in 20-25 knots out of Alicante Bay. The yachts now face a 6,500nm battle before they reach Capetown.

To-night (Sat) eight hours into Leg one Green Dragon has made significant gains jumping to fourth overall with Kenny Read’s Puma still holding her lead on Ericsson 4 in second place and Ericsson 3 in third.
