Only a select group of Royal Cork Yacht Club members have been given the honour of representing their country at the Olympics.
For 2008, our own Peter O’ Leary will be joining this elite group by representing Ireland in the Star Class. A tremendous honour which is richly deserved.
To recognise Peters departure to the Olympics the club are holding a sailing event on 30th July, next Wednesday.
The objective of the event is for our club to show their support and appreciation of Peters campaign.
The clubs dinghy fleet, Optimists, Fevas, Lasers, 420s, CATS, 18s, SB3s
are going to go racing at 18.00 (FG at 18.30). Peter will be racing in
a National 18. I would invite as many dinghies to race as possible and
then invite all other boats "to escort" Peter back to the club after
the race at approx 19.45.
There will then be a Chinese style buffet in the dining room with
complimentary drinks for all participants. If you cannot get on the
water then come along for the meal or at the very least to the club bar.
I hope that you can join us for this unique occasion between 18.00 and 22.00.
