Last Sunday the 420 class held its open day and gave a taste of speed to some of the clubs most promising junior sailors.

While a number of folk were evidently put off by the incessant rain on Sunday morning, by noon the day had cleared. Those that partook were treated to high octane sailing with fantastic planing conditions on the Curlane bank with the strong SW breeze.
Three boats took to the water for the afternoon and crews swapped in and out of boats as everyone got the opportunity to try out a 420 in what were for even the most experienced sailors challenging conditions.
Thanks go to Tom Mappleback for organising the event and in particular to Thomas Chaix who got more than one dunking as the sailors got to grips with the boats.
Everyone who took part agreed that it was very exhilarating ride and we look forward to seeing some new faces in the fleet during October.
420 sailing continues on Saturdays at 1pm for the month of October and anyone who is interested in joining in please send an email to 420@royalcork.com and we will try to help organise helms./crews and boats.
