All of the promotions in the national Optimist fleet system after the recent Leinster Championships were Royal Cork Sailors.
Conor Lyden and Seafra Guilfoyle were promoted to the Gold Fleet and Julie Tingle and Cian Byrne went up to the Silver Fleet.
Conor Lyden finished a fantastic season which saw him on the podium in every event he entered. He was 3rd Bronze in the Munsters, 1st in the Connachts, 1st Silver in the Nationals and 2nd in the Leinsters.
Seafra Guilfoyle became only the 2nd 11 year old in the Gold Fleet (the other being Philip Brownlow also of the RCYC) after top six placings in the Ulsters and the Leinsters.
Julie Tingle was promoted after top six placings in the windy Connachts and the light Leinsters showing the range of her capabilities.
Cian Byrne became the 3rd 10 year old in the Silver Fleet (one of the others is Peter McCann) after finishing 2nd in the Nationals (in one race, PRO Anthony O’Leary remarked on the excellence of his start over the radio) and 5th in the Leinsters.
