3 Royal Cork Sailors in Pole Position for Representative Teams

Killian O’Keeffe (Worlds), Kirsti O’Flynn and Richie Harrington (both Europeans) are in pole position to be selected to represent Ireland at the upcoming Championships after the third day of the trials in Kinsale.

The first five in the trials will be selected for the Worlds team. Seven sailors (4 boys and 3 girls or 3 boys and 4 girls depending on results) will be selected for the European team.

Currently Killian O’Keeffe looks like a good bet to make the Worlds team as he lies in 4th place overall with the likelihood of three more races tomorrow. He recovered well from the disappointment of having to sit out the first race (of 4) today after a black flag to post 3 top 10 finsishes.

Kirsti O’Flynn is in a very strong position to make the European team as she lies in 6th place overall. Solid rather than spectacular consolidated her position after an excellent day yesterday. Kirsti has never been outside the top 20 in the regatta and this affords her considerable leeway in the final day tomorrow.

Richie Harrington lies 8th overall but will need to maintain his consistent form tomorrow to ensure selection for the Europeans.

Other notable results include Conor Lyden (16th) Amy Harrington (17th) and Seafra Guilfoyle (20th and best under 12).
