Our Irish sailors have received a warm welcome to Malta with a visit by Irish Ambassador Padraig MacCoscair yesterday evening after racing. The ISA Optimist squad includes six club sailors (Aoife Byrne, Emily Whitaker, Kate D’Arcy, Rob Keal, Conor Horgan, Cathal O’Regan) and after the first day of racing Rob Keal lies 3rd overall.
The sailors are thoroughly enjoying the warm weather sailing conditions and the hotel’s close proximity to the club (3/4 min walk). The event is run by Young Malta Sailors Club which is a beach club setting opening into a wide but sheltered bay. There are 120+ sailors taking part from 9 countries. This event also has Laser radial, laser 4.7 and Optimist Fleets competing.
The Euromed 2014 event runs until December 22nd with the sailors travelling home on the 23rd with coach Thomas Chaix and Team Assistant Deirdre Horgan.
