This weekend the Royal Cork YC welcomed sixteen Topper sailors from Counties Cork, Waterford, Dublin and Down. The ISA squad and Open coaching groups launched in beautiful sunshine on Saturday and trained in perfect sailing conditions for the afternoon. Sailors and parents finished the day with an excellent club BBQ provided by Anthony, continuing to soak up the sun.
Sunday brought more wind and the perfect opportunity for our new Topper sailors to increase their skills in these conditions. The more experienced squad ventured to Roches Point to find the big wave training they need for the 2014 Topper World Championships in Pwllheli in August.
On the third and final day whole group racing gave the new Topper sailors a chance to pitch their skills against the ISA Topper Squad. The racing produced interesting results clearly forecasting an exciting future for our new sailors. The message was simply – “watch this space”!
A big thank you to all our Topper fleet parents who provided accommodation for our visitors, to Topper coach Dougie Power of Waterford Harbour Sailing Club and to the marina staff who helped make this weekend such a success.
