Last Sunday saw the conclusion of the 2014 Cobbler League, the final event in the Royal Cork’s busy Optimist racing calender. The event was raced over four Sunday’s in October and this year proved to be a tough competition with high winds on three of the four weekends.
Congratulations to Christopher Bateman who came first in Senior Gold and was also the overall winner of the event. Also on the podium was Sarah Levie from LDYC in 2nd Senior Gold with our own Sophie Crosbie in 3rd.
The Senior Silver Fleet was won by Jennifer O’Shaughnessy with Kinsale’s Jack O’Sullivan in 2nd.
Winner of the Junior Gold Fleet was won by the Royal Cork’s Conor Walsh, with Killian O’Regan in 2nd and David Carroll in 3rd place.
On the Podium for Junior Silver was Sophia McKeown in 1st place, Johnathon O’Shaughnessy in 2nd and Ben O’Hare in 3rd.
There were 10 stars of the future competing in the Regatta fleet which was won by Stephen Cunnane with Charlie Neville in 2nd place and Lucy Bateman in 3rd.
Thank you to all the parents for helping out to make the event a success, thank you to our PRO’s for the series, Stephen O’Shaughnessy, Andrew Crosbie and Nick Walsh and most importantly thank you to the sailors for battling it out in mostly tough conditions. The Junior Laying up Supper will be held at 7.30pm on the 14th November. This is always a very enjoyable evening and there will be prizes awarded to the overall top 3 places in Copper, Bronze, Silver and Gold as well as some fun prizes and a raffle.
