The Junior laying up supper was held last Friday night at the Royal Cork Yacht Club. It was fantastic to see so mainly young sailors attend.
This year we had 15 Sailors who retired from Optimists, Tom Keal, Caoimhe Foster, Sarah Cudmore, Kelly Williams, James McCann, Harry Durcan, Juliet Nyhan, Paddy Cunnane, Patrick Day, Mia Murphy, Molly Murphy, Lia Berkery Kelly, Richard McGinley, Maeve O’Sullivan and Cian Jones. The retirees were presented with a framed photograph of themselves when they were at the beginning of their Optimist careers! Sincere thanks once again to Paul Keal who kindly sifted through his library of photographs from over the years to find and give to the Class an individual photo of each Sailor. We hope to see these Sailors continue to contribute by acting as good role models and by helping and encouraging the next generation.
As a newly retired Optimist parent Michael McCann was recognised for being at the core of the Optimist Class in the Royal Cork both as a former Class Captain and through his unwavering support and interest in the Class.
The overall league prizes were presented to the following Sailors.
In the Copper Fleet Max Coveney came 3rd place, Eva Spillane in 2nd and the overall winner of the Copper Fleet for 2014 is Jamie Venner.
In the Bronze Fleet Anna Keal came 3rd, Ciara Burns 2nd and the winner of the Bronze Fleet for 2014 is Adam Power.
The Podium for the Silver Fleet consisted of Cillian Foster in 3rd place, Andrea Long in 2nd and Johnathon O’Shaughnessy in 1st place.
Finally in the Gold fleet Sophie Crosbie came 3rd and Rory O’Sullivan came in 2nd place.
First Gold and the Overall Winner of the 2014 Royal Cork Yacht Club Optimist leagues is Jennifer O’Shaughnessy. Well done to Jennifer and to all the Sailors who picked up a prize. Congratulations to all of our Optimist Sailors and Parents for a fantastic year.
The evening also consisted of some fun prizes and awards to sailors and parents in what was a very enjoyable evening.
The Optimist AGM will be held on Thursday 27th Novemeber at 7.30pm in the Club and we would like to see as many as possible attend.
