IRELAND MAINTAINS A COMMANDING LEAD AT THE 2010 ROLEX COMMODORES' CUP

Ireland remains the runaway leader after day two of the 2010 Rolex Commodores’ Cup. Those chasing, led by 2008 winners GBR Red, with strong competition for second from France Blue in third and the potent Hong Kong team in fourth, did a good job to minimise the damage inflicted today: the Irish managing to extend the gap over the second-placed team, but only by 2.5 points.

La Solitaire du Figaro departs on the final leg to Cherbourg

Tension was high for the leaders of  La Solitaire du Figaro as they prepared to depart from Kinsale for Cherbourg today. The fourth and decisive leg of the race was scheduled to start at 13.00 hrs and the skippers were expecting to have to deal with the last 435 miles to Cherbourg with weather conditions expected to be fairly tough and with a fast passage to the finish.

Superb First Day for Ireland at the Rolex Commodores' Cup 2010

On day one of the Rolex Commodores Cup 2010 at Cowes Team Ireland showed the way by topping the leader board at the end of today’s racing.  The three boat team all from the Royal Cork Yacht Club came in with three wins in the first race and they followed this up in the second race with two wins and a second place leaving them on 7 Team points.

YES, YES. IT'S GOLD FOR PETER O'LEARY AND FRITHJOF KLEEN IN THE STAR CLASS IN THE SKANDIA SAIL FOR GOLD REGATTA AT WEYMOUTH

Finally the hard work and dedication has come to fruition. Going into Race Eleven, the Medal race today, O'Leary had a deficit of three points behind Frederik Loof and Johan Tillander of Sweden with today's race counting for double points.

A Visit to Cobh

On a balmy summer evening The World is back in Cobh and berthed at the Deepwater Quay overlooking the former premises of the Royal Cork Yacht Club. She is a 644 foot vessel and carries residents from some forty countries in their individually owned luxury apartments as they circle the world.
