CRUISE TO CITY CANCELLED

It is with regret and disappointment that the Cruising Committee (in conjunction with the Port of Cork authorities) have made the decision to CANCEL tomorrow’s Cruise to Cork City.  This decision had been made as a consequence of the wet weather currently being forecast for tomorrow afternoon and evening and throughout Sunday

As you know the plan was to have an open air barbeque with music, etc., on the uncovered Custom House Quay and our decision to cancel has been taken (a) to avoid potential discomfort for participants and (b) to avoid any risk to personal safety arising among those moving between rafted vessels and around the metal pontoons provided by the Port authorities.

Cruise Log Competition

The Cruising Committee is introducing a new initiative for the 2009 season in the form of a Cruising Log competition.  The competition will be based around the submission of the logs of voyages undertaken by Members during the 2009 season, under sail or in motor vessels. 

The format of the competition will be to award trophies across two categories:

1. An extended cruise in excess of one month2. A summer cruise of one month (31 days) or less.

Classic Yacht visit

Classic Yacht visit

To celebrate the visit of Halcyon, a 93 ft classic yacht to our Club, Members are invited to a unique opportunity to learn about this historic vessel and her recent restoration, when her owner Dr Andrew Armour and members the yacht’s crew will present an illustrated talk highlighting the history of the vessel, details of her restoration and tales of her recent voyages and adventures at 7.30 pm on Tuesday, May 5th at the Clubhouse.

1. Saturday May 2nd            Boat Handling Techniques

In and around the marina – theory and practical demonstration (sail & motor) – 11.00 hrs

 

2. Weekend May 2nd -4th     Opening Cruising Muster

Our opening cruise in company will depart RCYC for a luncheon raft-up at Oysterhaven and will depart Oysterhaven at 15.30 hours to allow crews to see the MUNSTER v LEINSTER Heineken Cup Semi Final which kicks off at Croke Park at 17.30 hrs.  Arrangements have been made to facilitate crews to view the match at Kinsale Yacht Club followed by Dinner in the Club.

Please book (advising vessel size for berthing and crew numbers for dinner at KYC) with Fran at the Office by Thursday May 30th.…
