Tight Racing for the conclusion of the National 18 Irish Championships at Royal Cork Yacht Club

National 18 Champs 2012

Race Officer was John Crotty working from Rory Fitzpatrick’s Serifa as the committee boat.  The result went down to the final race where any one of four competitors could have taken the title.  As it happened Bryan Hasset sailing ‘Clea ‘with Sandy Rimmington and Nin O’Leary had a two point margin on 12 points to take the win over three boats all finishing just two points adrift each on 14 points and a count back was …

Busy Weekend for Royal Cork Yacht Club

Today with 8 to 10 knots of a westerly breeze saw the first day of the National  18s Irish Championships sponsored by North Sails. This is the largest one design fleet in the harbour and 18 boats came to the line.   Certainly the top half of the fleet showed just how competitive this class is.  Sailing off Trabolgan with the weather mark off Roches Point, the fleet got in three good races.  The first race was a windward leeward and this was followed by an Olympic course that took a black flag to get the fleet away cleanly.

The Dognose Trophy Saturday 14th July

All Class 1 Dinghies, the Dognose Trophy(originally scheduled for Sept 1st) will be run in conjunction with a great event in Lower Aghada to celebrate their new pontoon on Saturday July 14th. We will race around the cans and then down. There maybe be a short race down there to WOW the …

National 18′s Wednesday Night 20/6/12
Well we’re not used to the calm stuff but I suppose it had to come sometime! 13 boats took the water and credit to Keith he snuck in two races in a lighter than light SE.
Race 1 saw Clea with Hass and crew hold off Badger and Tommy Mc with Robert O’Leary and Red Penguin a menacing third.
Race 2 saw the Barry brothers battling it out and G B U with Ewen and crew taking the honours, Colin 2nd and Clea a consistent 3rd.
All told a good fleet of 13 but still 7 or 8 more in the dinghy park yet to throw a shape. Thanks Keith and rescue for providing the …
