Dun Laoghaire Topper Event

Congratulations to our four junior sailors, Luke McGrath, Eoghan O’Regan, Adam D’Arcy and Ronan Walsh who travelled to Dublin last weekend to compete in the Topper event in Dun Laoghaire. Not only was it their first Topper event it was also their first time sailing a Topper and they did their club proud. All four sailors came in the top half of the fleet with Ronan Walsh receiving 3rd prize for the U14s. The sailors had a great weekend, new friends were made and the boys were great ambassadors for the Royal Cork. Well done to all.

Official Launch of Cork Dry Gin Calves Week

The Launch of the Cork Dry Gin Calves Week took place at Blackrock Castle tonight (Wed).  The highly anticipated event, to be run by Schull Harbour Sailing Club, is just over fourteen weeks away and will commence with an opening reception and Skippers Briefing at the Fastnet Marine Centre on August 5th and the first Round the Islands Race will take place on Tuesday 6th.  The series will finish on Friday, August 9th with the final race from Schull to the Fastnet Rock and back.  This year there will be a cap of sixty on the number of  boats competing so early entry is advisable.

Further Update on David Kenefick’s progress in the Solo Concarneau Race today

Further update 10.15 pm May 8th

10.15 this evening David Kenefick has finished the Solo Concarneau in fifteenth position overall and second Rookie.  He has ascended another step on the Rookie ladder and we are all delighted for him.

Update May 8th, 2013

The night has passed and the fleet has now rounded Ile d’Yeu at the Southern most end of the course and are on the long leg North. The rain has stopped and the fleet is sailing in 20 knots from the South West. The fleet will be under big spinnakers roaring along. We can see the speeds on AIS are hovering around the 9-10 knots. ICRA/WIORA Championships 2013

With only five weeks remaining, it is all systems go for the Irish Cruiser Racing Association’s National Championships in Tralee Bay (starting June 13th), to be held in conjunction with the West of Ireland Offshore Racing Association’s championships, commencing June 12th, 2013.

If you haven’t entered yet ICRA advises it would be wise to do so as entries are coming very steadily and there are large demands on accommodation and berthing requirements .  If you have entered already but have not sorted out your accommodation and berthing requirements, it would be prudent to do so as soon as possible. Jill McGinley RCYC and Clíodhna Ní Shuilleabháin KYC amongst Eight Sailors to Represent Ireland in Cyprus in July

The ISA (Irish Sailing Association) has announced an eight-sailor squad that will represent Ireland at the forty third ISAF Youth Sailing World Championships this summer. The team of five boys and three girls will compete across three different classes at the most prestigious international youth sailing event which will take place in Limassol, Cyprus from the 13 – 20 July. Only one male and one female place was offered in each class and the contenders had to meet both international standards as well as win their category at the ISA Youth National Championships in April in order to be selected.
