420 Class sees upsurge in local interest – augurs well for youth sailing at Royal Cork

The 420 class has seen a major upsurge in interest this month – 4 brand new club pairings joined “old hands” Peter McCann/Arran Walsh and David Fogarty/Tom McGrath (both started way back last June!) for boat set-up and training in great conditions last weekend. Thomas Chaix has sent a coaches report which is published below for all.

Next weekend the newly invigorated class hosts an open training event where the local boats will be joined by teams from around the country – full details are published on the class website sail420.com. This is a new initiative and the class are hoping that the open training concept will be repeated around the country with one event every 4 to 6 …

Curradinghy 420 and 470 Class Munster Championship NOR

The details of the upcoming Munster Championship for 420 and 470 Classes have now been published.

The events are being run in conjunction with the Optimist Munster Championship and a fantastic weekend of dinghy sailing is expected for all.…

Challenging conditions today at ISAF Four Star Pizza World Youth Chanpionships

If conditions were challenging yesterday, they were even more so on day two of the Four Star Pizza ISAF Youth Sailing Championship in Dun Laoghaire today.
A westerly to southwesterly breeze was blowing off the Dun Laoghaire shore making the wind both shifty and gusty out on the water for the 343 competitors all under 19 years of age who have congregated in Dun Laoghaire from all four corners of the globe.  At one point  a squall passed over the fleet measuring 25 knots in the harbour.

Despite the testing conditions on the water, competitors in the eight classes all completed three races and with five races in total now sailed, have been able to discard their worst result.

Crosbie and Roberts lying third after day one of Four Star Pizza Youth Worlds at Dun Laoghaire

The Four Star Pizza  Youth Sailing World Championship got off to a tricky start for the 350 crews of 14-19 year olds from 63 nations today. Dublin Bay threw up a mix of light to moderate winds, with shifts and gusts as clouds passed over, while allowing the occasional glimpse of sunshine through.

The stand-out opening day performance among the Irish teams competing came from Royal  Cork’s Patrick Crosbie and Grattan Roberts in the 420 Boy’s class, who lie third overall in what is their first World Championship. They are 11 points adrift of the French leaders Guillaume Pirouelle and Valentin Sipan after posting a 15-2 score in today’s two races.
