Saturday 12th April saw a very busy day for the RCYC Optimists. The day day started off with over 30 young Sailors taking part in Darren O’Keefe’s Yellow, Green and Blue training groups, followed by the annual “Buy and Sell” where some parents got their hands on bargains while others sold on some outgrown items. The “Meet and Greet” followed which gave the parents a chance to chat over coffee and scones.
In the afternoon the first Leagues races of the 2014 season got under way when our main fleet Sailors took part in the 1st day of the April/May League. It was great to see over 20 Sailors competing in the 1st day of the league and we strongly encourage our Sailors to take part in the Club Leagues. A reminder to all parents that we need 9 parents on duty for 3-4 hours every day we race. Please contact me with any queries relating to volunteering for duties on firstname.lastname@example.org
Finally, to round off a fantastic day our Trials Sailors were presented with their Team RCYC Trials Jackets. The first leg of the Trials is in two weeks in Howth with the second leg the following week in Dun Laoghaire. It is a huge achievement to qualify for Trials and we wish them the best of luck and hope they achieve their ambitions to qualify for a place on an Irish Team. I’m certain they will do not only themselves proud, but their Club and their Parents also.
A reminder that the Race Management evening is on this Monday 14th April at 20.00hrs. This will cover aspects of PRO duties, Safety, and rescue, basically the key information we, as Safety Rib drivers and Crew to PRO need to manage Optimist racing in a safe, responsible and controlled manner. Please make an effort to attend.
