Cove Sailing Club – Marlogue Trophy Race

This is a reminder that  Cove Sailing Club’s Marlogue Trophy race will take place on Sunday 19th May Fg 14.00hrs

CSC plan to finish the race at or near East Ferry Marina. Boats can then tie up and prize giving will be held in Murph’s Bar over the water from the marina. There will be a rib service to ferry sailors to and from the marina.

New Cork Harbour Combined League

Last Friday night was the first race of the new Cork Harbour Combined Leagues. The first race was run by CSC and the start line was between the committee vessel and East Ferry 2 channel marker. With a very testing force 5 blowing from the WNW and a falling tide the fleet headed up to the first mark on the course, no 9. Kieran Dorgan helming his brother Finbarrs boat No Half Measures took an early lead to no 9 but with a miner navigational hiccup they sailed straight past the next mark no 14 and in doing so handed the lead to Bandit owned by Graham Marron and Kieran O’Connell. Royal Cork June Skills Coaching with Tomas Chaix

The June skills coaching programme will take place on the first 3 weeks of June. The club is delighted to have secured the services of Thomas Chaix as coach for the programme. Thomas is a highly experienced single and double handed dinghy coach very familiar already to many of our sailors.

This programme is aimed at all main fleet sailors in Optimists, all levels of Laser, Feva, 420 and (potentially) topper sailors. It has proved incredibly successful in previous years in rapidly developing the skills and confidence of the younger sailors, or sailors new to boats, who have not been exposed to the winter training programmes. 2013 Optimist Trials Conclude in the Royal Cork

Organised by the Irish Optimist Dinghy Association of Ireland (IODAI), the 2013 trials concluded in the Royal Cork Yacht Club over the long weekend. Sixteen races were sailed over a six day series (of which three were sailed in Lough Derg during early April), the Royal Cork cadets again made up the lions share of the fifty six sailors invited to compete.

By any standards in competitive sailing, a sixteen race series is pretty gruelling for adult competitors, not to mention cadet sailors aged between 10 and 15 years of age and puts into perspective what all of our nineteen sailors achieved.
