It’s a busy weekend in Crosshaven… The North Sails National 18′s Irish Nationals at the RCYC this weekend, hosted by Cork Harbour National 18′s; the harbour’s biggest one design dinghy class. There are competitors from across the country and the UK making up a fleet of 18 boats and great racing is a certainty!

The Dognose Trophy Saturday 14th July
All Class 1 Dinghies, the Dognose Trophy(originally scheduled for Sept 1st) will be run in conjunction with a great event in Lower Aghada to celebrate their new pontoon on Saturday July 14th. The Miss Betty(Class 2) and the Dognose(Class 1) were traditionally run together but we are having trouble locating this trophy, finding out when the Miss Betty was run last or who may have won it. I just wanted to give the ‘heads up’ incase there are any Class 2 dinghies that might want to race for this trophy. If you have any information please contact your Class Captain. National 18′s Wednesday Night 20/6/12
Well we’re not used to the calm stuff but I suppose it had to come sometime! 13 boats took the water and credit to Keith he snuck in two races in a lighter than light SE.
Race 1 saw Clea with Hass and crew hold off Badger and Tommy Mc with Robert O’Leary and Red Penguin a menacing third.
Race 2 saw the Barry brothers battling it out and G B U with Ewen and crew taking the honours, Colin 2nd and Clea a consistent 3rd.

Cork Harbour National 18′s Southcoast Championships
The National 18′S Southcoasts over the weekend brought some of the most exhilarating sailing we have seen in a while. Twelve boats started the first race on Saturday morning, no delay for the match!, in up to 25+ knots Westerly and it was no place for the faint hearted!
Race 1 saw Aquaholics pull their first of 3 bullets for the weekend with Ball ‘n Chain and 3 Blind Mice following in that order. Aquaholics held their winning ways in the second race with 3 Blind Mice second and The Good, Bad and the Ugly third. No shackle on the Ball’n Chain!
National 18′s Wednesday Night 13/6/12
Well Davy O’Connell and crew in Ball and Chain really put it up to the rest of the fleet last night with 2 bullets from 2 races in a16 boat fleet on the eve of the South Coast Championships. Keith gave us two W / L races on a rare sunny evening with a S E 10 knot breeze. Ball n’Chain was followed by G B U and 3 Blind Mice in race 1 with Aquaholics and newly launched Hatrick with Eddie and James taking 2 and 3.
In the crews race Barry O’Meara proved his worth in the river taking the honours.
